What is PRP?

“PRP” is an abbreviation for “Platelet Rich Plasma”.

PRP is a Specialist Therapy we are now offering at Eagle Vets in Minster.

It is an innovative technique which utilizes your pet’s own biological properties to enhance and direct the healing process.

It can be used to manage Osteoarthritis and treat certain soft tissue injuries and spinal conditions.

Positive effects can be seen for 6-8 months!

How Does it Work?

Platelets are found in the blood and contain growth factors and proteins, which can reduce joint damage and inflammation.

The Platelet Rich Plasma is a autologous (self-derived) therapy, using your pet’s own blood.

PRP creates, stimulates, and accelerates the body’s natural healing process!

How do we do it?

Your pet will have a blood sample taken under Anaesthesia.

The sample is then processed using our specialist equipment which allows us to extract and maximise the number of Platelets within the sample.

These platelets are then reintroduced into your pet’s body via injection into the damaged tissue/joint.

The therapy has no contraindications and minimal side effects.

It can be used to help delay or negate the need for surgery.
